MR. O’BOYLE
    Mr. O’Boyle says that he is not ready for the school year to be over because he likes the job when the kids are here. Next year there will be new volleyball jerseys for the girls and new shooter shirts for the girls’ basketball team. Mr. O’Boyle also would like to say good luck to the 8th grade class. He says that they have set a good example for the 7th grade. He also said congratulations to everyone for this great year!

KRP
    Right now in the KRP they are studying teddy bears. Each child has to bring in their favorite teddy bear and show it to the class. On April 27 the KRP parents and kids are having a pizza pizzazz. The KRP also has a field trip coming up on May 16. The KRP parents are coming and they plan on spending a day at the zoo. Then on May 17 they have their last day of school. On May 18 & 19 parents are invited to look through their child’s photos and journals that they have worked on throughout the year! Hope you have a great rest of the year, KRP!

KINDERGARTEN
    Kindergarten is learning about maps and the United States.  Fifth and 6th grades did a good job at helping with stations this year. Kindergarten is looking forward to going to the zoo on April 26th. The school year went really well and they can’t believe that the year is almost over. Good luck in first grade!!

FIRST GRADE   
    Mrs. Fitzsimmons’ class is having a great year. She is very happy with their AR reading. They are doing very well. First grade is finishing up their unit on fairytales. They have read Cinderella, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs, and Little Red Riding Hood. The 1st and 2nd graders will go on their Teddy Bear Picnic on May 10th after they finish studying bears. Mrs. Fitzsimmons hopes everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. Keep up the great work, 1st grade!

SECOND GRADE
    The second grade is getting ready to start the American Girl Series of books. Mrs. Catron says they are all doing very well in A.R They are doing subtraction fact sheets that have 100 questions!!!! They are writing almost everything in cursive. All of them are reading chapter books now. Their last field trip of the year is the Teddy Bear Picnic! They wanted me to tell you to have a great summer! Good job, 2nd Grade!

THIRD GRADE
    Third grade is counting down the days until school gets out. They recently finished all of their multiplication facts and are starting division. They have been reading 2 novels: Tornado and Hannah’s Helping Hands. In science they are studying the body systems and how they work. They’re, working hard to make their AR goals. Third  grade enjoyed their field trip to the Gateway Arch and to Carlyle Lake, where they learn about ecosystems, nocturnal animals, and recycling. Keep up the hard work.

FOURTH GRADE
    The 4th graders are going on a lot of field trips this month. They went to Earth Day in Carlyle and to the symphony. They went to the Gateway Arch and rode the riverboat. The also went to see “The Emperors New Clothes”. They are writing book reports about their favorite books, too. I hope the 4th graders have had a good time on their field trips!

MRS. MANGELSDORF’S CLASS:
    The 7th graders are reading There’s and Owl in the Shower. The 8th graders are reading Shiloh. Over the summer Mrs. Mangelsdorf is taking a class at SIUE and going to relax at the pool. MRS. WILBURN’S CLASS:
    Mrs. Wilburn’s class is looking forward to the end of the school year. They aren’t starting a new section in reading but are doing wonderful in A.R. Mrs. Wilburn’s class is planning on going to Powhatan for breakfast. Two of her kids will be transferring to Mulberry Grove. She hopes that you enjoy your summer.

FIFTH GRADE
    The best things about the school year for Mrs. Eyman are that she really enjoys her 5th grade students. She also loves to see them learn especially when they get a little light bulb action going. Her students are good in every thing they do, however, she would love to see them do better in A.R. They went on a conservation field trip. They are starting to study constellations in science. Mrs. Eyman thinks that the school year is going by way too fast and she is going to hate to send her students on to 6th grade. Have a cool summer!!

SIXTH GRADE
    The sixth grade is getting ready to take their field trip to the zoo with their zoo buddies. They are also looking forward to playing games with their kindergarten buddies. They are getting ready to start reading Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech. Mrs. Mollett says that she isn’t ready for summer vacation. She says there is a lot to do yet. Fantastic, 6th grade!

SEVENTH GRADE
    The 7th graders aren’t going to the Cardinals game anymore because the seats were sold out! They are still going on a field trip that is just as fun. They are going to the City Museum in St. Louis. It is like a huge playground. The 7th grade is reading the novel Holes. Mr. Smith and the 7th grade are very excited about the new baby! His name is Bryant William Smith. Congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. Smith and good luck to the class next year in 8th grade.

EIGHTH GRADE
    Mr. File and the 8th graders are going to the Abraham Lincoln Museum and to Six Flags. They plan on going on the ride “Mr. Freeze” over and over again They are going to dissect a grasshopper, which is an arthropod and then a starfish, which is an echinoderm. The students are holding their own in reaching AR goals. Have a great year!

LIBRARY
    Mrs. Ellsworth said the library is doing well. There are several new books from the book fair. She also says that the new computer system is going well, and now the students have access to library information in their classrooms. Thank you PTO, for the new books, new A.R. tests, and help in getting the computer system in the library!

ART
    The 8th grade will be taking a field trip to the Dane Thomas house in Springfield. Kindergarten is working on painting. First grade is working on Jackson Polic action painting; second on Monet; third on Piasa; fourth on mosaics; fifth on kaleidoscopes; sixth on hands; seventh on plates; eight on bottles.  Mrs. File is looking forward to visiting the Dana Thomas house and finishing a great year.

MUSIC
The final music event of the year will be the spring concert on May 15 at 6:30.  This involves students in 4th through 8th grades.

SPORTS
       Mr. File says all of his students are working hard and having so much fun. Mr. File likes to see an athlete impress us with his moves like the ones that he taught the boys in basketball.  He says: “I have had so much fun coaching for 14 years and still continue to be surprised.”

    First and second grades are learning jump roping while third and fourth grades are playing kickball games.  Fifth and sixth grades are getting ready for their field games.  They will participate in the softball throw, hullahoop contest, jump rope, and scooter racing.
